What is an e-scooter?
Electric scooters, such as those in the new Xiaomi range, are personal transporters suitable for teenagers and adults. They came to prominence in North America and Europe when scooter hire companies Bird and Lime put thousands of them on city streets. They remain controversial in the UK (as of July 2020) due to not being legal to ride on public roads (unless hired). However, as with nearly all police forces, West Yorkshire police do not appear to have taken any action against e-scooter riders so it is safe to assume you can ride an e-scooter around Bradford without issue, and as the Telegraph & Argus reported, they could bring great benefits to the city.

There are very few bricks and mortar stores selling electric scooters in Bradford (or elsewhere in West Yorkshire). Even the Halfords off Hamm Strasse do not have any on display (and few in stock). The nearby Argos sells some cheaper, less well-regarded scooters but Argos does not display the scooters either. The other option for Bradford residents looking to buy an e-scooter is to buy from an online retailer like Scootered. Of course, you may wish to see or try out an e-scooter before buying one and, as this is not currently possible in Bradford, you may want to consider visiting London's Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park or even one of the many European cities with a Bird or Lime e-scooter hire scheme.
